Dear

I am writing to you as a property owner in Surry County, Virginia, one of three locations in Virginia which has been chosen as a proposed site for an Outlying Landing Field.  This field would be used as an additional training facility for Navy pilots from Oceana.

A 2003 Navy study reported no need for an additional OLF to support Navy operations.  Why is this field needed?  Could it be the continuous encroachment of homes Virginia Beach has allowed to be built around the current landing field?  Could it be all the noise complaints from citizens?  Could it be the millions of dollars the Navy has paid resulting from law suits over noise or the impending legal suits?

Whatever the reason, I do not feel the residents of Surry County should have to give up their lives and livelihood to solve this situation.  How will Surry be affected?

1)      decreased tax base

2)      decreased land value

3)      loss of historical sties

4)      disruption of Native American burial sties

5)   restrictions on land use for greater than 2,400 acres of tillable land for agricultural   purpose

6)      increased taxes on other county property owners and businesses

7)      loss of recreational areas

8)      increase in “deafening” jet noise

9)      potential adverse effects on human health

10)  disturbance of local watershed for the Chesapeake Bay

Why should the residents of this quiet, rural county have to relinquish everything because other localities made selfish, irresponsible decisions?

Please support the citizens of Surry County in our opposition to the OLF.

                                                                        Sincerely,
